Terms & Conditions

When purchasing a ticket there is a Check Box to confirm if you have read these Terms & Conditions. By checking that box (which you must do in order to proceed further with the booking) you are agreeing that you have read this page, in its entirety.

It is not accepted by Just Be Cooking that a booking can be cancelled and a refund requested/fulfilled based on the Guest's position that they were unaware of the Terms & Conditions or the details of such.

Payment implies and constitutes knowledge, understanding and agreement of & with these Terms & Conditions.

These are the key terms and their definitions as part of this document:
Any event hosted and organised by Just Be Cooking or its contracted Hosts, for which Just Be Cooking accepts (or specifically waives) payment. These events are not limited to the terms above.
A person or persons ("Hosts") contracted by Just Be Cooking to host/lead any of the above events. They provide in-person instruction on the particular dish, meal or food process, are paid a flat fee and carry through the event to completion.
A Guest is anyone who attends (books) one of our events. They can be thought of as a student, e.g. if the event is about teaching a particular cooking method, or as a diner, if the event is about providing a sit-down meal (e.g. a Supper Club). For convenience, we will use Guest interchangeably.
A Venue is any location where our Workshops are being held. Just Be Cooking does not own any buildings or property - we arrange with third-part, external locations to hold our events in.

Full payment is required prior to the date of the Workshop
All  requests to attend any of our scheduled Workshops, Events or Dinners (hereafter shortened to "Event(s)" or just "Workshop(s)") can be made via directly purchasing a ticket through this website or, for private events, via this website's contact form.
By booking a Workshop or event, etc, Guests are agreeing to and accept all of the terms & conditions described here. There may be additional conditions included as part of the specific event being booked, particular to the location or for any other reason.
All payments in must be in $CAD. Please note that we do not accept payments in person, on the day of the Workshop.
When your booking is complete you will receive an confirmation email.  This is your booking confirmation. Should there be any problem with your payment or booking we will email you promptly.
To ensure that our Workshops runs smoothly, please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the class.  If you cannot make it for any reason, please let us know as soon as you can.

cancellations by us

Just Be Cooking reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a Workshop etc for any reason.
While sweeping, in practical reality this is usually because (but not limited to)  these situations:
- Not enough Tickets have been sold (generally 4 is a minimum number)
- Personal emergency of the Host
- Issues with the Venue (e.g. flooding, damage, unavailability for other reasons)
A minimum of 4 Guests is required to run a scheduled workshop.  In the event that minimum numbers are not reached, Just Be Cooking reserves the right to reschedule or refund in full. In the event that the workshop is rescheduled, Guests will be notified as soon as possible (up to 7 days prior) and within 60+ hours before the class.
If a workshop, etc has been cancelled due to low attendance, sickness or any other matter, all Guests will be notified within 60+ hours of the commencement date. The option to reschedule to another date or receive a refund will be provided. The size of the refund will be dictated by our refund policy.
Should Just Be Cooking be unable to provide for your workshop or event due to circumstances beyond our control then Just Be Cooking is not responsible for any costs, damages or expenses that you may suffer or incur.

cancellations by THE GUEST

Life happens and things get the the way. If you need to cancel a booking or simply cannot attend, then you have 3 options:
The refunded amount depends on how late in the process we are cancelling your booking.
These are the applicable refund rates based on cancellation notice before the event start time:
 48 Hours before:
100% refund
 24-48 Hours before:
50% refund
 24 Hours or less:
NO refund
These time frames are very fair; however, they are not open to negotiation. In the event of any dispute over the timing of a cancellation, we will go by the time stated in our ecommerce platform. Refunds will be rounded down to the nearest dollar.
This is also affected by how late we are in rescheduling - whether there is an available workshop to actually reschedule to, with spaces. Also, if there is a difference in cost between the two events then that must be paid.  Essentially, it is determined by the practical realities of what is available to reschedule to, so it is in no way guaranteed that rescheduling will be possible, feasible or fair to either/both of us. If this is the case, and a refund is not possible, then we have a third option - transfer the ticket.
Tickets may be transferred to another person without any additional cost to you or the new ticket holder. Neither may no fees or additional costs may be added by you or another party to that ticket transfer - you, an organization you are part of or a business you run cannot charge a fee when transferring the ticket. The new ticket holder person must be identified to us by email, phone call, or in person. There is no time limit on when an exchange may happen. All the same conditions and criteria from the ticket apply to the new ticket holder.

SAFETY and Security

There are two aspects to Safety & Security - 'Digital' and 'Physical' (or 'Real Life', if you will).
All credit card transactions are handled by Stripe, using their professional level security processes. Just Be Cooking does not handle the actual exchange of funds.

We send your order data to Stripe, who process the transaction with your credit card company, then confirm purchase to us and send the funds to our account. This activates the automatic confirmation process on our end and your booking email is sent.
This website uses SSL to secure the site and your interactions with it.

We also use Cloudflare to speed up the site and further secure your connection to it, as well as protect this website from various types of attack. In the near future we will also have SiteLock in place. We have various internal security measures in place also. These protect the site and its data rather than any external connections.

If you sign up for an account with us you will be required to have a strong password and two-factor authentication (TFA) in place. While this may seem onerous, in this day and age these are considered the absolute basic requirements.
Just Be Cooking does not accept responsibility for any lost data. We do our bit by adding layer upon layer of security, from simple reCaptcha up to and past cloud-based DDoS protection. You do yours by using a secure computer, not storing passwords in the browser, making use of TFA, etc.
Just Be Cooking will take all necessary care, but accepts no responsibility for the damage to or loss of merchandise left in the venue prior to, during or after a class/event/function. Just Be Cooking is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal items in any form.

Per Ontario law, Just Be Cooking defines a Minor as anyone under 16 years of age.
Minors under this age must be accompanied by an identified and acceptable Guardian or Chaperone, who must themselves be 18 years of age or older. Minors will not be accepted into the event or workshop without a Guardian/Chaperone. Just Be Cooking can assign a Chaperone from their staff with the prior signed consent of the Minor's Parent or Guardian, solely for the duration of the event or Workshop and at the cost of the Guest.  The Parent/Guardian or Chaperone is required to be available on-site and contactable by phone, sober, medically and psychologically stable, reasonably able to communicate and physically mobile.
Just Be Cooking will not release the Minor from the Venue and/or event until an appropriate Parent/Guardian/Chaperone is available to collect them. Any costs incurred by Just Be Cooking due to delays in collection will be passed directly to the credit card-holder on file for that Minor. Rates vary per venue and Workshop; the Minor's Parent or Guardian are required to inform themselves of any/all details relating to late collection (these will be included in the Workshop details issued before the event).
Just Be Cooking takes child safety extremely seriously. We reserve the right to refuse or stop a Minor's participation in an event or workshop if we feel they will be a danger to themselves or others, for any reason identified by us. It is incumbent on the Parent or Guardian to select an event or Workshop appropriate to their child's age, physical or mental ability and medical condition.  We do not know your child as well as you do. If you have any queries, issues or concerns then you must contact us immediately, preferably by Phone and Text.
Just Be Cooking will take all necessary care, but accepts no responsibility for the damage to or loss of merchandise left in the venue prior to, during or after a class/event/function. Just Be Cooking is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal items in any form.

Damage & Loss

Just Be Cooking is not responsible for any damage to or loss of any personal property.
You, the Guest are liable for any and all damage(s) & losses caused by you, by events or damages to the property of Just Be Cooking, other Guests and/or the hosting Venue, caused directly or indirectly by your behavior or actions . The Guest or group organiser (e.g. of a private Workshop or separate group within the Workshop) may be held financially responsible for any damage to or loss of Just Be Cooking property during the workshop/event/function. The cost of repairing any damage to walls, doors or other parts of the property as a result of inappropriate conduct will be charged to the credit card holder of record.
Just Be Cooking will take all necessary care, but accepts no responsibility for the damage to or loss of merchandise left in the Venue prior to, during or after a class/event/function. Just Be Cooking is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal items in any form.

When participating in a Just Be Cooking Workshop/dinner/event, where by the Guest will be around or using sharp and potentially dangerous tools suitable to a kitchen environment, the Guest releases, indemnifies and excludes Just Be Cooking and/or its employees and contracted persons from any and all liability of any kind for any damage or injury incurred while attending or visiting a Workshop or other event organised by Just Be Cooking.
The Guest understands these terms and conditions and accepts the inherent risks of a kitchen environment when they make a full payment for a scheduled workshop/dinner/event.

The information provided here is not a replacement for medical advice. Please ask your appropriate medical professional for any advice or information.
If you have a medical condition of any kind it is required of the card holder paying for the event, the "Booking Guest" to read this section in full, to note any aspects that concern you and to bring them to our attention.
If you or one of your party has a serious heart condition or similar you are required to notify us in advance, by 24 hours. This gives us time to check that our allocated venue has a defibrillator on site and if not, it gives us or the Venue enough time to arrange for one. If this is not possible then we will inform you and you can make the final decision on weather to come or not.
You must inform us 24 hours in advance of the event of any allergies or similar food-related medical conditions. This will allow us to confirm if appropriate medical equipment is available, weather the venue is safe for you or your fellow guests to be on site and/or if there are any safeguards we can put in place. We firmly believe everyone should be able to enjoy our events, whatever their medical condition or status - but there are practical realities and requirements that we may not be able to meet.  24 Hours is the minimum time-frame for us to be able to do the maximum.
Attendees should consult their healthcare provider for management of their diet. Just Be Cooking is not liable for damages or dietary issues  pr medical conditions or nay other resulting aspects that may arise from attending any hosted workshops or events. By purchasing and/or attending a hosted event you are agreeing to this policy.
Some, but not all, of our events and Workshops list the ingredients involved. If you need further information then please contact us immediately and we will provide a list.
